The checkered flag is waving! Yes, we have a winner! In fact, everyone’s a winner! Saguaro Camp Cherith had a winning camp season with “Cherith Driving School” as our theme in 2007. On the first night of camp we ran a driving test for girls and a NASCAR race for the boys. All the “cars” were very creatively made out of cardboard boxes. Everyone earned their “Cherith Driver’s License. Each night at dinner we were visited by our own crash dummies who presented a lesson how not to drive and how to live the way God would want us to live.
Activities included archery, air riflery, hiking, fishing, horsemanship, canoeing, making birdhouses, glass etching, worship dance and so much more! We concluded girls camp with a counselor hunt—some of the counselors had great hiding places and were never found! (Hint—next time check out the trash cans!) The boys finished their camp with a Pinewood Derby. They worked hard on sanding, painting and decorating their cars every day and raced them on the last night. Excitement filled the air! One camper took first place even beating out staff member’s cars! Several staff members endured sticky, gooey syrups and whipped cream as they became “human sundaes” as a reward for campers who memorized Bible verses during the week. We enjoyed great kids, great staff, great activities, great friends and a chance to enjoy God’s beautiful creation as we learned more about living for Him.
